Meet IINS new team leader and Junior Professor. She will be leading the team Hafner: “Molecular Dynamics at the Synapse”
Title
Presynapse Function and Dysfunction
Abstract
We study the dynamic composition of synapses, the molecular basis of memory encoding in the brain. Synapses semi-autonomous subcellulare regions of neurons often located hundred of micrometers to centimeters away from their neuronal cell body. The lab studies changes in synapse compositions (i.e. RNA, protein, lipids) associated with healthy synaptic function like during memory storage or in pathology like in Alzheimer’s disease. My lab uses a large array of techniques including omics-approaches combined with FACs-based synapse purification, metabolic labelling, super-resolution, live-imaging as well as computational modelling to elucidate the functional impact(s) of synapse composition alterations. We aim for a better understanding of synaptic function in health and disease, to help the development of innovative preventive and therapeutic approaches to brain dysfunction.
